Training


The Office of Provider Management hosts trainings for current providers, including the 120-hour RBWO Foundations training for new staff in specified roles, Reasonable and Prudent Parenting, Every Child Every Month (ECEM), and other topics. GA+SCORE also posts training information supplied by other DFCS departments, including IMPACT Train-the-Trainer sessions. OPM may also post registration information for other public and private trainings of interest to RBWO providers.

Training Opportunities



RBWO Foundations is a 160-hour RBWO new-hire training course which supports the development of knowledge and skills of RBWO staff who serve in case support and supervisory positions within their RBWO agencies. Foundations addresses child welfare career preparatory areas that build general knowledge regarding child welfare practices and policy in DFCS, RBWO standards and working in partnership with DFCS case managers. The overall objective of Foundations is to provide RBWO staff with information to help them be successful in their RBWO roles which includes working within the DFCS practice model, understanding DFCS policies, RBWO standards and working in partnership with DFCS case managers to accomplish positive outcomes for children and families. RBWO Foundations Classroom Registration: The classroom component of RBWO Foundations is a one-week in-class session for only existing providers with staff in the roles CSS, CSW, and HSP. Register by clicking a training on the calendar; you will receive an immediate confirmation email. If you sign up for a training and cannot attend, you are required to contact the OPM Training Department go cancel your registration. To cancel or make changes to your registration, please contact the Training Department at opmtraining@dhs.ga.gov -- spaces are limited and your cooperation is essential.
 
RBWO E-Learning / Field Practice Registration: The E-Learning/Field Practice component is completely individual. Effective June 2016, registrations must be submitted through GA+SCORE (click here for details). Your registration confirmation and materials will be sent to you by the Office of Provider Management. Participants are allowed 90 calendar days in which to complete this component, which consists of 120 hours of material. Once you have registered, click here to access training materials.

Participants will then be required to take the test in person. Testing will be done in Norcross, GA.  You can complete the test in person on Thursday, November 14th or Tuesday, December 10th. If one of these dates do not align with your schedule, we will discuss other options in class.

DFCS supervisors should use the online registration system to register DFCS staff, foster parents, and contractors for this class. Private agencies (including individuals who plan to contract with DFCS in the future) should use this form to register* for class. All parties interested in providing pre-service training to prospective foster parents will need to complete NTDC TTT only. Effective July 1, 2024, the agency will no longer offer or support the delivery of the previous IMPACT pre-service training. Please send all class availability inquiries and registration forms to ssregistrar@dhs.ga.gov.

4/10/24  - Cancellation Policy: All registration for NTDC TTT is non-refundable. If your registration is cancelled for any reason, a credit will be given for any registration fees already paid.  This credit may be used to attend another session or to transfer registration to another individual.  Credits will expire six months from the time of cancellation. No credit will be given for cancellations received less than five business days before the start of the training. Email SSRegistrar@dhs.ga.gov for all rescheduling/cancellations.

The Office of Provider Management and Care Solutions provided in-person FY 2018 Performance-Based Placement training in Macon in October 2017. The training was geared toward staff of CCIs, CPAs, ILPs/TLPs who are responsible for PBP reporting in GA+SCORE or who need to learn more about reading PBP measures, scorecards, and data detail reports. Resource Development Highlights
This is a 2-hour workshop that supports the dissemination of information about Resource Development requirements and policies.
 
The State Office Care Coordination Treatment Unit offers training and technical assistance to both DFCS and RBWO providers. The current training list offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable information to assist with working with high-end youth. Participants can also meet and engage directly with members of CCTU, as well as foster better lines of communication between DFCS field staff and providers. Many of these training opportunities are scheduled at the request of the county office or agency. To request training or technical assistance in a particular county or at a provider location, please email: cctu.support@dhs.ga.gov.
 
  • Understanding CCTU
    The Care Coordination Treatment Unit assists DFCS field operations with identifying appropriate placements for high-end, complex youth. Upon completion, participants will better understand the foundational objectives and key responsibilities of CCTU and develop new strategies for work with this difficult population of youth.
  • Waivers and Program Designations
    Participants will understand the differences between RBWO Program Designation Memorandums and waivers. They will become familiar with approval designees and understand the submission process upon completion of the training.
  • MWO Matters
    This training will allow participants to identify challenges with MWO placements and strategize ways to overcome many of the barriers. Participants will become familiar with associated behaviors, solutions for maintaining placement, crisis stabilization, and much more.
  • Placement Matters (DFCS only)
    This training is designed to educate DFCS field staff on how to locate placement for children entering foster care and making placement moves. Participants will learn how to seek support, and who the key players are at each level of the process related to difficult-to-place youth.
