Thursday, November 14th from 10:00 am – 11:30 am  Best Practices When Advocating for Youth Facing School Discipline
  • "Best Practices When Advocating for Youth Facing School Discipline" addresses the disproportionate impact of disciplinary actions on youth in foster care, who historically face 3-4 times as many consequences as their peers. This frequent disciplinary action often leads to academic setbacks, including lower grades, increased absenteeism, and a higher likelihood of dropping out. The training emphasizes the importance of understanding and leveraging laws and educational rights to advocate effectively for these youth, ensuring caregivers and providers are empowered to support the students and know where to go for assistance. The ultimate goal is to keep youth connected to their education, even when behavioral issues arise, to prevent further academic decline and promote long-term success.
